Is Sri Lanka right for me?
Submitted by seekingsolitude on Wed, 2010-01-27 15:23. Lanka ExpatsI am fed up with life in Europe. I want to find a quiet spiritual existance where I'm not bugged by bureaucracy and shallow people. I want to go about my business without people judging me. Sri Lanka looks and reads like a beautiful place to be. What are the down sides people?

Living in Sri Lanka.
Submitted by faro on Sat, 2009-08-29 07:50. Lanka ExpatsHi, new to this forum. Currently "living in Goa" but the visa situation is getting really akward now.
So we are looking at trying to live in Sri Lanka. When we were last in Colombo in early May this year. the city was almost like a fortress have things changed now the war is over.
We are coming across in October and going to the south west coastal area, Galle and Koggala. Does any know any good house rental agents in these places. Does any one have any advice or knowledge on long term
A ferry service between Sri Lanka and India is to be started soon.
Submitted by Bram on Mon, 2009-07-27 08:53. InternationalSri Lanka and India are to start a ferry service between the two countries. Transport Minister Dalas Alahapperuma says the ferry that connects Colombo with Cochin in South India will create more benefits to both countries. Sri Lankan Buddhist pilgrims who visit India are mostly benefited by the ferry service. It will significantly reduce the transport cost between India and Sri Lanka. The Minister made these comments at the 2nd SAARC Transport Ministers’ Summit held in Colombo today. The Minister added that the President has directed him to streamline transport between the two countries. Accordingly, the new ferry service will begin shortly. Measures have also been taken to recommence train services between the two countries. After the completion of reconstruction of railway track up to Thalaimannar pier this will be a reality. The SAARC Transport Ministers also decided to name the decade from 2009 to 2019 as SAARC Regional Transport Cooperation Decade. Accordingly, railway network connecting India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, Afghanistan and Sri Lanka will be set up. The third SAARC Transport Ministers’ summit will be held in India.
